I started working on the VERKKO series soon after Covid-19 began spreading in this country. In my peaceful, solitary studio I was able to continue working through the months while the virus raised havoc around. VERKKO is a Finnish word for net or network and it can also be interpreted as a tangle or trap. The title depicts the mesh medium used in these images. I was intrigued by the three dimensional illusions and all the possibilities they offered for me to play with. The other group of images on this page titled VIIRU (streak) were executed in 2018 and they project a different time and different sensibility. The graphic quality in them remind me of a group of serigraphs I printed many, many years ago.
