Bark (Kaarna)
When I was a young girl I used to play with pieces of bark, whittle them into boats and send them sailing on the vast lake behind my grandparents’ sauna.
During the last couple of years I have been playing with bark again, experimenting with various surfaces, creating paintings, prints and wall sculptures.
In the latest series of images the bark has been transformed into black coal. Colorful shadows emphasize the dark, rough forms.
